Media Leaders... The Loop at the Lake

We are really excited in the Library to have some awesome library leaders coming assisting Mrs. Johnson and me.  The following students are graciously volunteering their morning time once or twice per week:  Yanci Cartagena, Mariana, Kaylee Wetzel, Riley Brady, Brendan, Katherine, Rachel, Emma Lewis, Ariel Christianson, Alana Hughley Jaycob, Solanna, and Gabi Martinez-Maciel.  Our Library Leaders (or the Library Posse as Mrs. Johnson and I call them) are so important in the mornings when there are gazillions of kids who need our assistance.  We really appreciate how proactive these leaders have been in getting to us on their assigned days and jumping right in to whatever task we need accomplished.  Thank you and we look forward to a great year with you!

Speaking of leaders, Ms. Adams (STEM teacher), Mrs. Johnson, and I are really excited to begin a new program... it's called "The Loop at the Lake."  This will be a weekly broadcast of 5th grade media leaders who will report on local and global news as well as the happening Lake news.  Students will research and write stories during literacy, meet with Ms. Adams once or twice in the mornings, and film on one day during their recess.  All 5th grade students will be given the opportunity to participate by filling out an interest survey.  Ideally, each week, "The Loop at the Lake" will be broadcast by different students, therefore, they will only be committed to 1-3 weeks for the whole year.  Students may choose to volunteer for a variety of roles from anchor person to reporter to journalist, and eventually, to camera person and film editor, and they may perform different roles if asked to repeat.  Our plan is to broadcast each Friday and then post the broadcasts on the blog!  Any students who are in a reporter or anchor role will need to have permission to be on the Internet; please keep in mind that all broadcasts will only be available to those with a link (thus semi-private and not searchable), but they will be available to folks checking out the Lake Myra ES website.  We will begin this program in the 2nd quarter but will start organizing it very soon.  Bring on the mayhem... our media leaders will figure out how to make sense of it!!

We are also excited to offer Story-time for Sibs for any younger siblings of our Lake Myra students. These sessions will be on Fridays beginning in the 2nd quarter, at 9:30am and will involve stories, music, and weekly parenting/literacy topics led by various staff members.   Come in and get to know your school library and staff and have some fun bonding with your child while exposing them to fun with reading!!  First session will be Friday, October 25th... come and enjoy the Media Mayhem!
